“This tribute honoring the legendary Bob Barker will evoke cherished memories for generations of The Price is Right enthusiasts who admired Bob for his wit, his ability to forge connections with contestants, and his natural gift for making every moment shine,” stated Margot Wain, Senior Vice President of daytime programs. She continued, “Bob was a singular personality, and he will be commemorated as an exceptional host, a dedicated animal advocate, and, in his own words, ‘a faithful friend and true.'”
The hour-long commemorative event is designed to spotlight pivotal instances throughout Barker’s tenure as the show’s host, tracing back to his inaugural appearance as the host of what was then known as The New Price Is Right and extending beyond his retirement in 2007. Over the course of 35 years, Barker assumed the role of the affable “master of ceremonies,” establishing connections with numerous contestants as the presenter of television’s lengthiest continuous daytime game show. His efforts were rewarded with 14 Daytime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Game Show Host, and in 1999, he received a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Daytime Emmy Awards. Barker’s legacy also encompasses his passionate advocacy for animal rights, a cause he championed by famously concluding episodes with the phrase, “And remember folks, always spay or neuter your pets!”
Scheduled to broadcast on Thursday, August 31 at 8 p.m. ET/PT, this special event will be accessible for streaming on Paramount+. Additionally, a rebroadcast is planned for Labor Day.
